So, I just opened my inbox, and I received a sad email. I will not be putting an order for the juke in this month. Dealer has no allocation for it :(
They might be able to find one in ground stock somewhere in August when it's time for me to buy, but it doesn't seem likely...
Right now I'm looking at alternatives for the Juke. So far, the Dart GT and the most basic V6 mustang are the next 2 I am planning to look at
Feel free to give suggestions BTW
Budget is $23,000.
Car has to be new and a manual

That's terrible! Good luck finding a suitable replacement.

I'm thinking about it, but doubt I will come up with anything smart to say. I have no experience with new cars..

Wait. They don't have the allocation for a Juke?????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Do you live in Iowa?

try a different dealer maybe?

New AND Manual he says!
LOL
Sir, this is 'Murica. We're too lazy for manuals. WE let some computors do that for us so we can sext-and-drive while drive as we eat our BIG Mac and drink our BIG Gulps of flavored corn syrup while we drive.
Go back to Yeerup ya pinko commie bastard. Wants to shift his own gears.
Yeah...good luck with your search.

Juke*
Juke NISMO with a 6speed manual with the Nav package
it's kind of specific

I wish for a WRX, but it costs too much...
![]() 06/11/2014 at 18:54 |

Like, can you slowly explain to me why you aren't at the Ford dealership right now...
![]() 06/11/2014 at 18:54 |

Nismo package I presume is what the issue is then.

Sonic RS!
Jetta of some trim level; A left-over 2013 with the 5-pot?
Cruze 1LT with 1.4T and 6-speed manual with a bunch of options.
Camaro LS.
All I have to say is this: It's rebate season over at GM. Look at any and all GM vehicles that are around your price range, you could get something that's closer to $26,000 for around $22,000 if you play your cards right at the dealer.

I would be, but mom doesn't want to go... I'm 15, so I can't just go on my own...
I WANNA DRIVE A FIST, FOST, AND STANG SO BAD RIGHT NOW

If you don't really need practicality, Fiat 500 Abarth.

Meh, Just a couple grand. You could probably get a discounted one if you poked around enough.
![]() 06/11/2014 at 19:04 |

not even that..
MANUAL nismo package
they had 4 CVT nismos! FOUR!!!
![]() 06/11/2014 at 19:06 |

ok... I see where you're coming from!
Any idea how I should go about presenting that at the dealer?

Note this also...
Fully loaded Cruze 2LT (highest trim level with manual) is right at $22,515.
Leather appointed seats; Navigation; RS Package; Sun, Sound, and Sport package; 2LT convenience package; Pioneer audio system.
A turbocharged 1.4T engine mated to what's supposed to be a good 6-speed manual transmission. And it's loaded to the brim with a bunch of goodies. all for less than the maximum of your budget.

Why doesn't your mother want to go? She has no other automotive-related connections to dealers, so why is she acting so? Where does she want to go?

but it's underpowered. For exactly the same price, I can have a dart GT with the sound/sun pkg. just as good, only it's an NA. it does have 46hp more though, which Is a lot...

Thats because no one knows how to drive manual anymore.
![]() 06/11/2014 at 19:20 |

You're also getting 148ft-lbs of torque at 1800 RPM from the turbocharged motor. And the car only weights 3300 pounds.
I just did the math, it has a better power-to-weight ratio than my van does. And my van is perfectly live-able to drive daily. Not every car needs to be a performance car, especially if it's going to be your first car.

As I said in the last post you made, do everything you can to get the Juke. You seemed really excited about it, so get one. Whatever it takes. I wish someone had told me that at some point before I bought my Kia. Don't get me wrong, I loved that car, but I had previously been set on a manual Camaro and can't help but wonder how different things would be now if I had stuck with it.
That being said, for the money I'd strongly recommend the Abarth if you don't need space. Seating position in it is weird, but I have to imagine the Juke sits similar so you probably will like it. Are you paying for it or your parents? With the $23k budget you can get an Abarth for much less, maybe you can convince them to put the savings towards something else. Maybe put it in a college cash fund or post college savings?
Otherwise, the FiST is a fantastic option, even if it's a bit unattractive. I'd recommend the Sonic RS, but keep in mind it's a tad bit anemic stock. If the FiST didn't exist it would be a better option than it is, but you might be able to get a really good deal on one and put some extra money towards a tune. Mine has surprised everyone that's been in it, so there's that.
On the coupe side, Mustang and Camaro are fine choices, I'd also consider the Genesis although $23k is pushing it on all of those.
A few more options you haven't listed: Civic Si, CRZ, Veloster Turbo, Kia Forte Koup SX (200hp turbo)
Ultimately I suppose my advice is consider everything, but when it comes time to buy don't settle
![]() 06/11/2014 at 19:28 |

I've you have your heart set on the Juke then I'd say wait it out if you can. Better to have some patience and get what you really want than settle for less for the sake of a little time saved.

yeah, I know, but I've been spoiled, what with having driven a Jetta and a GTi while learning...
Basically, the Jetta's a benchmark for me
any car I get needs to be as good or better
![]() 06/11/2014 at 19:38 |

The numbers you just listed sound terrible. 148 ft-lb is abysmal, especially for a turbocharged engine, 3,300 lbs is heavy for a compact car, and $22k is wayyyyyy too much money to spend on something like that. That seriously sounds like the worst possible option.
![]() 06/11/2014 at 19:39 |

Ok, so right before the 2015 models are taking over the lot they'll have some marked down 2014's in there. Look for very gently used cars also.
![]() 06/11/2014 at 19:41 |

I learned in a car making 258 horsepower that weighted 3800 pounds. I was then thrown into a car that weighed 1000lbs more and had 68 less horsepower. But it was a car that I knew I wouldn't get in trouble in, something which almost happened yesterday when I drove the more powerful car. We're both young teenagers that probably don't need more than 140 horsepower at out disposal honestly..
I drove next to a Cruze yesterday and I could HEAR THE TURBO SPOOLING. Don't you want that in your life?
Just go try the Cruze while you're out shopping around, I bet you'll be surprised.

You're the same person who said this about the Sonic. I honestly give no shits about your opinion.

You walk in with money and they say they can't get you the car. Doesn't seem to be the way dealerships would want to run? Have you tried someone like Car Solutions? That is who my credit union works with.

Oh shit, I didn't even realize you were the same guy. I thought it somewhat odd that more than one person would sing the praises of the Sonic. Sorry, wasn't trying to troll. If I realized it was the same handle I would not have commented.

Don't know if you've watched the news lately, but there is a reason its "rebate season" over at GM...

"Basically, the Jetta's a benchmark for me"
That's a first.
![]() 06/11/2014 at 20:07 |

They've done big rebates in May/June for as long as I can remember.Hell, they were rebating cars back in '04 when we bought my dad's Silverado, and again in '08 when we bought my mom's Vue. It's just something GM does around this time. It has absolutely nothing to do with the recalls.
Also, explain to me why sales were up in May if this recall is having such an adverse effect on them?
Nice try trying to shoot them down though. Better luck next time bud.

Pretty much every manufacturers sales were up in May. I believe it was the strongest month since February 2007.

Call around. Some dealer will have it and they will make it happen for you. You may have to drive an hour or two, but if you are excited about it then it is worth it.
![]() 06/11/2014 at 20:32 |

I like it a lot
The 5 cylinder sounds good, it's fast both to 60 and to 100, it's comfy, it's got a good sound system, and it handles much better than it has any right to
![]() 06/11/2014 at 20:35 |
|
eh, I'd rather have a 4, 5, or 6 that's naturally aspirated.
Don't get me wrong, turbos are awesome, and I love them dearly, but an NA5 sounds way better (my stepdad's got a GTI, and I love how that thing sounds, I just like the jetta a bit more)
And 140 isn't enough for me, sorry! I know "I can get in trouble with more" but I'm responsible enough not to (I hope...)
I'm aiming for around 200 in my first car :D
![]() 06/11/2014 at 21:52 |
|
Oh bud, I thought I'd be responsible too. But when you're in the car alone, knowing you won't get yelled at for flooring it, it just kinda... happens.
Sounds like you need to find a left-over 2013 Jetta with the 5-pot then.
![]() 06/11/2014 at 22:49 |
|
heh.. I know that feeling...
Oh, and there just so happens to be a 5-pot jetta at my disposal when I turn 16! yay!
I'll have the jetta anyway, so I'm looking for something to drive the 50% of the time when I'm not out, ruining my mom's tires
![]() 06/11/2014 at 23:46 |

Then a Dart GT.
Something American! Something!
(TBH, I'd probably pick the Dart too. My inner GM fanboy just wants everyone in a GM car.)
![]() 06/12/2014 at 14:50 |
|
You're choosing between the Dart and the Juke?
I'm kind of sad over that.
Why not the Fiesta ST, GTI or Golf R, or a Camaro, ...or even a Wranger instead of a Juke.
![]() 06/12/2014 at 15:51 |
|
Again, I have some choice, but not much
It's my parents who are paying for it, and they think the GTI is too fast (my stepdad owns one). Golf R is too much, and used doesn't work. FiST is on the table, but it's kind of small. Camaro is on the table, wrangler doesn't give me enough for the price, since I prefer on roading to off roading
